Poland: prices for ordinary recovered paper grades tumble in November

Market players and experts see a delayed reaction to the recovered paper price trend in Western Europe.

Prices for ordinary recovered paper grades took a tumble in Poland in November. This price drop had looked likely in late summer when supermarket corrugated paper and board (1.04) and mixed paper and board (1.02) became much cheaper in Western Europe. As usual, buyers in Poland had a somewhat delayed reaction to trend in neighbouring countries.

Just a few minor price cuts materialised in October. The markdowns then hit with full force in November, according to market players.

Prices for imported recovered paper did not fall as much in November, EUWID market research revealed. Price negotiations for this material proved to be tougher, paper manufacturers said. "We had to scale back the amounts we ordered to show that we are serious and will not give way,” one buyer remarked.
