Italy: Price discussion for recycled CCM not yet through / Kraftliner under pressure

At the end of October, the announced price increases for recycled corrugated case materials did not go through as planned yet. Prices for kraftliner, on the other hand, continued to weaken, not least due to a heavier supply of kraftliner from the other side of the Atlantic.

Leading European packaging paper manufacturers caught buyers by surprise in October by announcing plans to charge more for recycled corrugated case material. At the end of October, however, there were only few reports of closed contracts, and there seems to be only a slight increase.

On the kraftliner side, prices in Italy were coming under pressure in October. EUWID sources were again reporting minor price cuts, mainly concerning peak prices. At the same time, suppliers are apparently already preparing for additional movement in prices in November and likely in December too. EUWID contacts said that suppliers might lose more ground than they would like between now and the year's end in the battle for orders.

One reason for this is the US dollar's recent loss in value, which had made Europe much more attractive to overseas suppliers and thus drawn much more kraftliner on European markets.
