Producers of recycled corrugated case material are trying to take advantage of a very good order situation and have announced price increases as of 1 August.

They believe there is a good chance of recouping the price decline suffered in recent months. Inventory levels are relatively low at the moment and there have reportedly already been some delivery bottlenecks. The effect of some shutdowns is also being felt. Furthermore, production stoppages are planned in the summer as companies carry out maintenance.

Nevertheless, some observers are sceptical about the implementation of the plans. They claim the market is being described as tighter than it actually is. Although it was possible to realise a price hike last summer, which is not usually a favourable time for such measures, the situation now is not quite the same, say industry insiders.
