Price increases for recycled containerboard in the UK announced

|

Recycled corrugated case material manufacturers have been under enormous pressure over the past few weeks as a result of rising recovered paper costs and extremely low prices for their products. Now, most suppliers have informed their customers of mark-ups for recycled containerboard from 12 March. While Continental European recycled containerboard markets have already witnessed the first price hikes, British prices fell once again in February.

A few producers told EUWID that these reports had put the dampers on the downturn a little, but that buyers continued to put the squeeze on suppliers. Many manufacturers encountered improved order intake since these announcements amid attempts to secure as much material as possible before prices started to rise in the UK. Broadly speaking, however, demand was rather slow for seasonal reasons and should actually be a little stronger if prices were to rise, one market expert added in a conversation with EUWID.
