Negotiations for six-month contracts concentrate on unchanged sales prices on last year's level.
Price negotiations between paper producers and newspaper publishers on the German market for newsprint is still dragging on. Several respondents said that the parties negotiating the delivery conditions for coldset newsprint had not changed their positions in March and no changes were expected in the coming days, but contracts still have to be signed.
The outcome of price talks, however, seems now quite clear to most market players. For six-month contracts, either covering the January-June or April-September, the trend of rolling over last year's prices is becoming more established. In the case of annual contacts, paper sellers and publishing houses are reportedly also discussing marginal mark-ups for 2017, depending on the starting level.
Producers are unwilling to give in to demands from some producers for price reductions declaring such attempts as a red line that should not be crossed.
