High stocks of brown recycled corrugated case materials in combination with a demand that failed to live up to expectations have prompted prices for these grades to decrease on the Polish and German markets in November.

Signs of a weakening on the the European corrugated case material markets have become more prevalent over the past few weeks. Demand failed to live up to the industry's expectations in August and September. At the same time, paper machines were running at full speed so manufacturers' inventories were rising.

In the past few months, some mills had built up extremely high stocks that were forcing market players to offer discounts in November. As a result, prices for brown recycled containerboard were lowered in November on the German and the Polish markets. According to market insiders, further concessions had already been grated for December.
