Pro-Gest's 405,000 tpy Mantua recycled containerboard mill is now planned to start operating in the second half of November. The power plant has already started up.

Pro-Gest subsidiary Cartiere Villa Lagarina has started up the power plant at its Mantua recycled corrugated case material mill in Italy on 29 October. The start-up of paper production is therefore imminent. According to the company, it takes about three weeks for the power plant to prepare and produce the steam needed for the paper machine.

Pro-Gest expects to comission the containerboard machine in the second half of November. It would take a couple of weeks to reach full capacity and the first paper volumes for the market would be ready in the course of December, it said.

The Mantua mill has a capacity of 405,000 tpy of recycled testliner and fluting in basis weights of 70-160 g/m. The market has been waiting for the new capacities for some time now. Pro-Gest faced several bureaucratic obstacles in the past years which prevented the start-up of the machine. The PM was ready for commissioning as early as 2018 when the first test runs were made.

In May this year, Pro-Gest finally received all permits necessary to start production and wanted to commission the machine in July. The start-up was then delayed again several times over the summer.
