Logistics disruptions squeezing pulp supplies in Europe.
In September, the prices for bleached softwood and hardwood kraft pulp is remained unchanged for the fourth month in a row. Although pulp producers have been facing growing pressure for a few weeks, buyers reportedly had not much leverage to achieve price reductions.
There are currently mixed views about how NBSK and BEK pulp prices will develop in October. EUWID respondents often believe that prices will stay stable. However, some paper producers are vehemently demanding price reductions from their pulp suppliers because they urgently need some cost relief in their mills.
Some buyers believe that price cuts were inevitable as high pulp prices normally lead to a reduced consumption. On the other hand, pulp supplies remain tight on the market in Europe. This was due to reduced transport capacities and delays in deliveries, and also to scheduled maintenance downtimes in the softwood pulp industry according to the latest EUWID report.
