Recycled containerboard paper prices heading lower in Italy

Pressure on prices is being exacerbated by abundant supply from outside Italy, experts noted.

Italian recycled corrugated case material prices have been pointing lower again since October at the latest. The majority of EUWID sources said that most prices for both brown grades and white-top testliner had decreased for deliveries in October. Paper manufacturers were relatively busy and described demand as good or at least satisfactory at the start of the fourth quarter. Converters did not have much bad news about demand to report in September or October, either. Nonetheless, Italy – like other European markets – has been facing much stronger pressure on prices since the summer.

Sources told EUWID that healthy availability and fiercer competition among suppliers are the main factors putting growing downward pressure on prices. This downhill trend in Italian recycled corrugated case material prices was compounded by the persistent slide in recovered paper prices.
