Recycled containerboard prices still under pressure in Germany in May

Amid high stocks of recycled containerboard, their prices continued to drop on the German market in May, and are expected to do so in June also - despite the announcements of price increases.

Market players have at most “taken note” of announcements of price increases for fluting, brown testliner and brown kraftliner substitutes on the recycled corrugated case material market just a few days before they were due to take hold on 1 June.

While a few additional costs were also cited as a rationale, there was simply too much paper on stock throughout Germany and Europe that the corrugated board industry can access. Paper stocks are so high at the moment that it will be difficult to deplete them even if German converters are still quite busy and continue to buy normal volumes, experts believe.
