RDM group has temporarily halted production at Villa Santa Lucia recycled board mill in Italy due to wastewater treatment issues.

Production at Reno de Medici's Villa Santa Lucia recycled board mill in Italy's Frosinone province has been standing idle since 7 February due to issues related to the sewage treatment plant operated by Cosilam, the Consortium for the Industrial Development of Southern Lazio. RDM group reportedly filed for short time allowances under Italy's wage guarantee fund (cassa integrazione guadagni) and introduced temporary layoff measures for the entire staff of Villa Santa Lucia WLC (white-lined chipboard) mill.

According to RDM, production at the Villa Santa Lucia mill had to be halted after the Cosilam sewage treatment plant was seized and put under investigation by the authorities for irregularities related to increased content of certain materials, such as zinc, in the wastewater. RDM's Villa Santa Lucia board mill was subsequently blocked from discharging its wastewater at the Cosilam facility.

Reno de Medici denies any responsibility for the irregularities in the Cosilam wastewater treatment plant. "The existence of zinc contested in the seizure order has nothing to do with the paper production cycle, since this substance cannot be found in this type of production", the company stressed in a statement.
