Negotiations on higher paper prices amid tight supply in some segments abound on paper markets in Germany.

Price hikes for woodfree paper are set to become widespread in July. Producers in the segment report full order books. Exploding costs of freight and pulp in conjunction with poor availability of containers as well as raw and auxiliary materials are the biggest problems that producers are currently facing.

Supply is particularly tense for SC and LWC grades. Improved business conditions have triggered greater advertising activity which has run into limited availability of paper. Prices are surging as a result.

Demand for kraftliner from the corrugated industry remains extremely high and converters find it difficult to meet demand. Suppliers are planning more pricing steps for August.

In the core board segment, prices have also moved significantly higher in the course of the second quarter. Several upward corrections are in the offing for July.
