Russian newsprint manufacturers react to the drop in demand
30 Nov 2020 −

Amid a significant drop in newsprint demand, mainly from Asia, Russian newsprint mills are pressing ahead with diversification, making significant amounts of liner and fluting in the first three months of 2020.

Russian newsprint producers are suffering from a hefty decline in the production of printed products, which fell by a high single-digit percentage in Russia during the course of the year. They are also complaining about a collapse in the export business.

Companies Kondopoga, Solikamsk and Volga are therefore diversifying their portfolios to include packaging paper. Huge demand for these grades in China meant that these companies had also tapped into a new main buyer, Russian experts told EUWID.
