SAICA and First Eagle Funds in negotiations on sale of Emin-Leydier

French producer of corrugated board, packaging and paper Emin-Leydier might be acquired by its competitor SAICA

First Eagle Funds and the Spanish group SAICA announce that certain of the First Eagle funds for U.S.-based investors and SAICA have entered into exclusive negotiations in the context of the envisaged sale of the Emin Leydier group. A French producer and a European player in the production of corrugated paper and packaging, the Emin Leydier group operates eight industrial sites in France. Certain First Eagle funds have held approximately 53% of the capital of the Emin Leydier group since 2009. Emin Leydier group generated revenues of €356m in 2016.

The envisaged transaction is subject to consultation with the Emin Leydier group employee representative bodies and approval from the EU competition authority.

First Eagle is an independent investment management firm that provides investment advisory services for approximately $110bn in assets (as of 30 June 2017) on behalf of institutional and individual clients. First Eagle Funds began operations in 1979 and had $80bn in assets as of 30 June 2017.

SAICA is one of the European players in the development and production of recycled paper for corrugated cardboard, with a production of 2.5 million t of paper. With more than 9,000 employees across Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, UK, Ireland, Turkey, Luxembourg and The Netherlands, SAICA group has four business areas: recycled paper production for corrugated cardboard (PAPER), recyclable materials recovery (NATUR), production of corrugated packaging (PACK) and flexible packaging (Flex). The consolidated turnover of the multinational is nearly €2,382m (consolidated sales, 31 December 2016).

The Emin Leydier group was created in 1975 from the merger of La Cartonnerie Emin and Les Papeteries Leydier, two family owned companies. The Emin Leydier group is specialized in the production and the sale of corrugated paper and packaging. The Emin Leydier group operates in France out of eight industrial sites and delivers its products in France and Europe. The Emin Leydier group serves a broad range of clients in highly diversified sectors, including industry, food, and e-commerce. In 2016, the Emin Leydier group employed 1,029 people.
