Prospective buyers are interested in taking over the plants' employees

The sale of two DS Smith plants in western France, imposed by the European Commission as a condition for the approval of the Europac acquisition, is within reach. A spokesman for DS Smith France confirmed to EUWID that there are interested parties for the corrugated board and packaging plants in Saint-Amand and Cabourg. The company did not comment on the number and names of interested parties, but explained that the information on interested parties published in the French regional press did not come from a reliable source. Various articles mentioned International Paper, Saica and VPK as possible buyers.

However, negotiations with interested parties are in progress and one can expect that a result will be reached before the end of the first half of the year, explained the company spokesman of DS Smith. A condition for a sale is that one party takes over both plants, the spokesman continued. At the current level of information, the takeover of the employees of both plants posed hardly any problems, he said. The decisive factor for finding a buyer will be which interested party presents the most sustainable concept for the two facilities.
