Sappi Europe to hike prices for fine paper

Sappi Europe has launched a price hike initiative for fine paper on markets in Europe and overseas. The move is motivated by cost increases for raw materials and logistics.

In Europe, Sappi is asking for a 8-10 per cent price increase for uncoated and coated woodfree reels and sheets. According to Sappi, the price hike in European markets is to be implemented at the latest by 1 March.

The fine paper price hike announcement for overseas markets amounts to "a minimum of US$50/t" and applies to February production and March shipments, Sappi Europe announced. "The decrease in consumption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic continues to place strong pressure on prices. In combination with cost increases in paper production and transport this has continued to lead to unsustainable profitability levels, especially felt in our overseas markets," the company explained.
