SCA to close tissue paper mill in Spain

SCA will part with its tissue paper mill in Sant Joan de Mediona which leaves the company with three tissue plants in Spain.

SCA has announced the closure of its tissue paper mill in Sant Joan de Mediona in Spain. The production facility has a capacity of 45,000 tpy of tissue paper. Production would be discontinued during July, said the company.

SCA explained that the decision was aligned with the company's strategy to optimise its geographic production footprint in order to drive cost and capital efficiency. The company added it would remain fully committed to the Spanish market, which was the group's sixth largest market based on sales in 2015.

The Mediona mill is the only SCA mill in Spain that dispenses with converting facilities. The company operates another three production facilities in the country. In Valls and Allo, the group produces tissue paper and converts them into tissue products. The Telde plant on the Canary Islands is a converting facility for tissue products. SCA furthermore operates two sales offices in Barcelona and Madrid.
