Slovakia's government approves €49m in subsidies to Mondi SCP's in Ružomberok

Mondi plans to build a new 300,000 tpy containerboard machine and upgrade pulp production at its site in Ružomberok, Slovakia, at a total cost of €310m.

The Slovakian government is prepared to grant paper manufacturer Mondi SCP in Ružomberok, a subsidiary of the Mondi Group, an investment subsidy for the company's investment project. The Slovakian economics ministry published a decision taken on 10 March according to which the paper mill may get as much as €48.8m provided that the subsidy is approved by the Slovakian anti-monopoly agency as well as the European Commission and several other conditions are fulfilled. It could reportedly take as long as 18 months until the decision is final.

Mondi plans to build a new paper machine at its industrial complex in Ružomberok with a capacity of around 300,000 tpy of corrugated case material including kraft-top white, a special grade of recycled corrugated case material with a white, virgin fibre top layer. According to current plans, the mill could be commissioned in 2019. Mondi estimates the total costs at €310m.
