Smurfit Kappa confident its Recycling Dual system will start as of 1 January 2021

Smurfit Kappa closes the loop by creating Recycling Dual
21 Oct 2020 −

Smurfit Kappa's Recycling Dual system is highly likely to start on 1 January 2021. Although the required approvals still have to be obtained from several German federal states, Smurfit Kappa and Recycling Dual expect they will be granted in time.

Should the two companies fail to receive approvals from some federal authorities in a timely manner the group will start cooperation with partners in those federal states where the approvals are still missing. Therefore Smurfit Kappa and Recycling Dual are confident that the system will be able to start in 2021. The company has already begun the licensing process.

Germany expects huge cost increase
for packaging recycling in 2021

Germany's "dual systems" expect massive cost increases in the area of packaging recycling in 2021. Substantially higher charges will apply for paper and board packaging.

This is exactly where Smurfit sees the strengths of Recycling Dual - being the only company able to cover the entire lifecycle of packaging made from paper and board, from their development through licensing up to their collection and final recovery.
