Smurfit Kappa announced an investment of €35m to increase capacity of the Hoya mill by 70,000 tpy of recycled containerboard.

Smurfit Kappa Group will increase capacity at its Hoya paper mill. The company has earmarked €35m to replace the entire press section of the mill's PM 2 with state-of-the-art technology, improving the overall efficiency of the manufacturing process, the group says.

Thanks to this newest investment, capacity of the paper machine will go up by 70,000 tpy to reach 450,000 tpy of recycled containerboard and production speed will increase to 1,250 m/min, according to Smurfit Kappa. The additional capacity is expected to be available from the first quarter of 2023.

The 7.5 m wide PM 2 produces testliner and corrugating medium in grammages between 90 and 180 g/m².
