Södra to take market-related downtime at Folla and Tofte pulp mills

|

Södra Cell will suspend pulp production at its Folla and Tofte mills in Norway for at least four weeks with effect from 12 December. According to Södra, downtime at Folla and Tofte is necessary due to weak demand and excess pulp supply. Södra is the first company that has officially announced market-induced downtime in the European pulp market in an effort to arrest the downslide in prices.

The Folla mill churns out some 100,000 tpy of CTMP. The Tofte mill produces 400,000 tpy of soft- and hardwood pulp. The duration of temporary shutdown will depend on developments in the pulp market in the coming weeks, says Södra.
