Sonoco acquires cores producer D&W Paper Tubes

Sonoco is a big player on the US market for cores and tubes. The group has added another cores plant in Georgia, USA by acquiring D&W Paper Tubes.

US packaging group Sonoco has expanded its large presence in the USA by acquiring cores producer D&W Paper Tubes. D&W operates one plant in Chatsworth, Georgia and produces cores made from 100 per cent recycled fibre, serving primarily the carpet and textile industries. The company expects to generate sales of $18m in 2021.

Sonoco has annual sales of $5.2bn and operates more than 300 plants, of which around 200 are located in the US. in Georgia, the group operated two cores plants so far.

“D&W is complementary to our Industrial Paper Packaging segment and further strengthens our position serving the carpet and textile market in Northeast Georgia. In addition to acquiring an attractive book of business, we expect to drive meaningful business synergies from our integrated industrial products operations in the Southeast,” said Howard Coker, Sonoco President and Chief Executive Officer.
