The company has initiated a project to find future options for the site.

Stora Enso has finalised co-determination negotiations concerning capacity closures at its Kvarnsveden mill in Sweden that had been announced earlier on in April. The company said that the site's pulp and paper production would be closed permanently by the end of the third quarter this year. Kvarnsveden's customer centre will be closed by the end of this year, while the power plant will continue to operate for district heating and maintaining buildings onsite. Co-determination negotiations on personnel issues and related redundancies will begin shortly.

Stora Enso has initiated a project to find future options for the Kvarnsveden site. The company says that the site offers numerous advantages for future use such as strong industrial infrastructure, a railway connection to Gothenburg harbor, a connection to the national electricity grid and availability of clean water.

The Kvarnsveden mill houses two paper machines with a combined capacity of 565,000 tpy of supercalandered (SC) paper and improved newsprint which are mainly used in magazines, newspapers, catalogues, supplements and retail advertising. Part of the mill is an integrated TMP mill with capacity of 900,000 tpy.

The company will continue to produce SC Paper at its Langerbrugge mill in Belgium and its Maxau site in Germany and improved newsprint at its Anjala mill in Finland. Its Sachsen mill in Eilenburg, Germany will also continue to produce and sell improved newsprint but will be sold to Swiss Model Group which will convert production to containerboard 18 months after the closing of the transaction.
