Stora Enso Oulu Exits WFC Paper Production, Kraftliner PM to Start by End-2020

Woodfree coated paper deliveries to customers guaranteed until the end of the year.

Stora Enso has discontinued woodfree coated (WFC) paper production at the Finnish Oulu mill. The last WFC reels rolled out from PM 7 in the last weeks of September, according to the company. Production on PM 6 was already stopped at the start of September.

WFC papers would be provided to customers from inventory until the end of 2020, and deliveries continue through Lumipaper NV and Lumipaper Ltd, the company announced.

Total production capacity of PM 6 and PM 7 exceeded 1 million tpy of woodfree coated paper. PM 7 is going to be rebuild to kraftliner production and Stora Enso entrusted Valmet with the conversion. The company plans to start kraftliner production at the Oulu mill by the end of 2020.
