Debottlenecking of one production line in Skoghall will result in 100,000 t of additional capacity.

Stora Enso will invest in board capacity expansion at the pulp and board mill in Skoghall, Sweden. The upgrade will reportedly increase the mill's capacity above 900,000 tpy and drive growth in attractive market segments, such as liquid packaging board and coated unbleached kraft (CUK) board.

"The board expansion in Skoghall will be implemented through debottlenecking of one of the existing production lines, and executed in two steps, utilising the scheduled maintenance stops," Stora Enso announced. However, the group decided not to go ahead with the originally planned pulp capacity expansion at the Skoghall mill.

Stora Enso reportedly also commenced a pre-feasibility study for the conversion of the second fine paper machine to packaging board production at the Oulu mill in Finland. The company expects the study to be finalised in early 2022.
