In order to meet growing global demand for SC fluting, Stora Enso will invest in its Heinola fluting mill and increase capacities at the site by 15,000 tpy.

Stora Enso has announced an increase in SC fluting capacities at its Heinola mill. The company said it would invest €28m in the site in order to improve quality and raise output of its AvantFlute SC product. Implementation of the investment is scheduled to start immediately with completion expected in the second quarter of 2018.

At Heinola, Stora Enso produces semi-chemical fluting made from virgin fibre with a capacity of 300,000 tpy. According to the company, the upgrade will increase the site's capacity by 15,000 tpy. The site has around 175 employees. Majority of the production is exported, mainly to Spain, the Philippines, Italy and Sweden.

"The timing of this investment is ideal as we expect an increased demand for high quality fluting products used for food, fruit and vegetable packaging. In addition to facilitating a more competitive offer to the market, this investment also enables a lower carbon footprint at our Heinola Fluting Mill," says Gilles van Nieuwenhuyzen, EVP and head of Division Packaging Solutions.
