Stora Enso to rebuild Oulu PM 7 with Valmet

Valmet will supply the extensive paper machine grade conversion rebuild for Stora Enso Oulu mill in Finland.

Stora Enso decided to exit fine paper production and produce kraftliner at the Oulu mill in future. The company entrusted Valmet with the planned conversion of the mill's PM 7 from fine paper to containerboard production. The value of the order was not disclosed.

According to Valmet, the start-up of the rebuilt machine is scheduled for the end of 2020. The machine will have a capacity to produce up to 450,000 tpy of brown and white-top kraftliner in basis weights ranging from 80-225 g/m². The design speed of the machine will be 1,300 m/min.

Stora Enso Oulu can produce more than 1 million t of coated woodfree paper on two machines. The company plans to continue woodfree coated paper operations until the end of September 2020 when it will start with the conversion of PM 7. The idled PM 6 will reportedly remain on the premises.
