Today workers at Finnish paper mills have started a strike after negotiations broke down. The strike could last even longer than originally planned. Stora Enso and UPM mills are affected, amongst others.
The threatening strike in the Finnish paper industry has become a reality. Finnish trade union Paperiliitto reported that workers at Finnish paper mills had downed tools today. The extensive strike is set to last until 17 February, unless the talking parties reach an agreement. The next round of negotiations is scheduled to start on Tuesday morning.
The strike affects the member companies of the Finnish Forest Industries Federation (FFIF), which include the mills of UPM, Stora Enso and the Metsä Group, amongst others. The association says it represents the entire paper industry and 65 per cent of the Finnish forestry industry.
Explaining the reasons for the strike, Paperiliitto said that it had been in negotiations with the Finnish Forest Industries Federation FFIF since August for new collective bargaining agreements and talks had not made any progress.
