After job cut decisions concerning UPM's Augsburg and Steyrermühl facilities due to the machine closures, the company has now announced further rationalisation measures. More than 100 jobs might be eliminated in several of UPM's European sites.

UPM has announced rationalisation measures at the European sites of its Paper division and is planning to cut jobs in the process. The company reports that up to 108 jobs might be eliminated at a total of 20 sites. The plan concerns Supply, Customer Service, Sales, and Technical Customer Service teams. The measures have no effect on production at the sites, UPM told EUWID. UPM Paper currently has 8,000 employees in Europe and North America.

UPM acknowledged that these job cuts are in addition to the streamlining in the workforce that has already been decided upon in Augsburg in Germany and Steyrermühl in Austria. Here, 143 and 125 jobs respectively are to be cut following the closure of two machines with a total capacity of 305,000 tpy of SC paper. UPM shut down its PM 2 for SC paper in Augsburg at the end of 2016. Another SC paper machine, PM 3, is to be shut down at Steyrermühl. The closure is scheduled for the end of March.
