The German paper industry's federation fears that the exit from nuclear and coal power might jeopardise energy supply to pulp and paper companies and impact their ability to compete on international markets.
The German pulp and paper manufacturers' federation VDP is concerned about the current developments in the country's energy and climate policy. The industry's association fears the impact of political decisions, such as the announced exit from nuclear and coal power generation, on grid stability and energy prices.
The contribution of regenerative energy sources to the energy supply was still highly volatile, VDP said, calling for the "phasing out of nuclear energy and coal" to be carried out with caution. In addition, VDP is also lobbying for the pulp and paper industry to be compensated for the expected increase in electricity prices.
According to VDP, the paper industry - like all other energy-intensive industries - wants to be part of the solution. However, security of supply and international competitiveness should not be jeopardised.
