West Rock will have to prepare for production losses at its pulp and containerboard mill in Panama City, Florida. Hurricane Michael damaged the mill which is now standing still.

The pulp and containerboard mill of US company West Rock in Panama City, Florida was struck by hurricane Michael which made landfall in Florida on 10 October. According to the company, the site, which was in the direct path of the hurricane's landfall, sustained a substantial amount of damage to buildings and equipment.

West Rock reported that a shutdown process had been started already on 8 October. On 18 October, the company announced that the containerboard production system would return to full production capacity within 30 days. Market pulp production is expected to begin by the end of November, but will likely be limited to no more than 50% of the mill's market pulp capacity for an estimated period of six months, says West Rock.
