Woodfree paper markets remain strained in Germany

Graphic paper prices are still soaring in the wake of a supply shortage on the German market.

Almost all producers of woodfree coated and uncoated paper are now seeking to impose energy cost surcharges, These surcharges also apply to contracts that have already been inked, so converters feel that they are taking a real beating.

Paper mills emphasised that there was no alternative to paying these surcharges. Energy costs had skyrocketed within the span of just a few months after being stable in the recent past.

Shortage of material is also contributing to the upward trajectory in fine paper prices.Volumes had been cut dramatically and some delivery dates stretched into March or April without setting prices in stone, buyers said. Delivery failures are also reported time and again.
