A three-phase investment project will boost packaging paper production at Klaipedos Kartonas by 100,000 t in the next three to five years.

Lithuania's packaging paper manufacturer Klaipedos Kartonas, a company of the Grigiškes group, plans to increase its capacity for recycled corrugated case material. In preparation for the increase, the company will upgrade its PM at its headquarters in Klaipeda, western Lithuania, in a three-phased investment programme.

Klaipedos Kartonas said its production capacity will double within the next three to five years. Klaipedos Kartonas currently produces about 100,000 tpy of recycled corrugated case material.

The first stage of the project envisaged a capacity increase of 30% which will reportedly be available before the end of the third quarter of 2016. The company has already contracted machinery supplier Voith Paper who will supply new machine components worth €9.3m for the upgrade.

Klaipedos Kartonas estimates that the total investment in the first phase of the project will amount to €13.6m. In addition to increasing production volume, the investment reportedly also aims at improving quality and expanding the product portfolio.

The company will also increase its capacity for honeycomb board by installing a second production line. Investment for the second line will exceed €1.4m. It is scheduled to be commissioned in October this year. Today, the group produces around 10,000 m² of honeycomb board. This volume will see a threefold increase when the new line is installed, the company said.
