Temporary recovered paper shortage in Spain brings new buyers to France

Prices for ordinary recovered paper (RCP) grades were squeezed in France during April. This pressure is coming as a result of lower overseas exports, which were leaving higher volumes on the domestic market, according to recovered paper merchants. The euro has also been strengthening against the dollar for some time now, and North American export prices for recovered paper are falling. As a result, quite a few buyers in the Far East are returning to the US market to source recovered paper.

Prices for deinking grades tend to be heading in the opposite direction. Scant supply and consistent demand resulted in prices rising by a couple of euros in April.

Insiders said that customers on the French domestic market were ordering normal amounts of recovered paper, with the exception of lower demand related to stoppages for technical reasons. Buyers in Spain are also continuing to place orders for French recovered paper given shortages at times in this country.
