More capacity will be taken out of the coated fine paper market against the background of declining overall consumption.

German paper producer Papierfabrik Scheufelen announced that it would shut down one paper machine, thus adapting its production to a dwindling overall demand for graphic paper. The company said that the shutdown would reduce its total output capacity from 300,000 tpy to 140,000 tpy.

The shutdown will reduce Scheufelen's number of employees, which is currently 650. The company said it would continue to focus on premium paper and on holding a leading position in the market segment of coated premium paper. Last year the company produced 277,000 t of paper and reported sales of €195m.
