WFU paper prices in Italy continue to decline

Manufacturers of woodfree uncoated paper have been forced to lower their prices once again in Italy due to poor demand and high supplies.

June was a slow month for Italy's woodfree uncoated paper market. According to EUWID respondents, demand has been low and suppliers were complaining about volatile order intake, which further intensified uncertainty among suppliers and the pressure on prices.

Many paper mills have poor order books and paper manufacturers are on the hunt for orders to boost capacity utilisation. The temptation was high to stimulate customers' ordering activity by offering discounts and special prices, sources in Italy said. Price cuts were thus on the agenda in June.
