Paper, packaging and visual communications materials distributor Antalis has signed a binding agreement to acquire packaging distributor Pakella, based in Riga, Latvia.

Pakella is one of the leading packaging distributors in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, Antalis informs. The company specialises in the manufacturing and distribution of industrial and food packaging to various business customers. It reported annual sales of €15m in 2023 and has 60 employees. The agreement is subject to the approval of the Latvian competition authority.

Antalis says the acquisition will significantly expand its existing packaging distribution business in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, demonstrating its commitment in the Baltic countries following the acquisition of Hansapakend in Estonia in 2015. A member of Pakella's board of directors commented that the acquisition will broaden the company's product portfolio and gain new international customers.

Earlier on this year, Antalis acquired Portuguese packaging materials and components distributor 100 metros. Last year, the company took over North American supplier of protective packaging Lovepac and Spanish packaging distribution company Gosuma. In 2022, Antalis expanded its packaging portfolio by acquiring German companies BB Pack Group and Drei Gleichen as well as Spanish company Cohal.
