Omya to significantly increase GCC and PCC capacity in Asia

Swiss company Omya is building seven calcium carbonate plants in China and Indonesia.

The company reports that all seven onsite plants are currently under construction. The plants to produce ground calcium carbonate (GCC) and precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) are scheduled to be commissioned in 2023 and 2024. The project reportedly builds on long-term partnerships with players in the board and paper industry.

The new plants in China include three to produce GCC in Guangxi, Guangdong and Shandong, two production facilities for PCC in Shandong and another PCC plant in Fujian. The new plant in Sumatra, Indonesia will produce GCC.

The new sites will offer a wide spectrum of products which can be used as fillers as well as for coatings. They will have a combined capacity of roughly 1 million tpy including 740,000 t of GCC and 260,000 t of PCC.
