German paper and packaging producer Progroup will construct a new corrugated sheet feeder plant in Italy. After it initially looked as if the plant would be built in Vimercate near Milan, the company has now announced that Cessalto in Ventia has been chosen as location.

Construction of the plant is scheduled to start in spring 2023, with production expected to begin in late 2024.

Progroup said it would invest €90m in the new facility and create nearly 65 jobs. The site was in the direct vicinity of Italian packaging producer Ondulkart, the company pointed out. Progroup is also planning a second construction phase, in which an adjacent packaging park building will be added.

In 2021, Progroup had announced the construction of four new corrugated sheet feeder plants in Europe, of which one was to be built in Italy. There had already been quite detailed plans to realise the project in Vimercate in northern Italy. Progroup now reports that this project is on hold. The other three new plants will be erected in Poland, Germany and France and are expected to start operations by 2024.

Progroup already operates one corrugated sheet feeder plant in Italy – in Drizzona in Lombardy. That site has a capacity of 100,000 tpy of corrugated sheets and is located adjacent to packaging specialist Imbal Carton.
