Cepi: Paper and board consumption declines more than expected in 2022

The paper industry has another year of multiple challenges in the rearview mirror. The knock-on effects of the Covid-19 pandemic were still leaving their mark when another crisis – the war in Ukraine – emerged and stood in the way of a market recovery, Cepi said when presenting industry statistics for 2022. Energy prices skyrocketed, putting a severe strain on paper mills. The economy had also been ailing, especially since the autumn, and thus demand in many areas declined. “We continue to have extraordinary conditions.
