FEAD calls for rethink on closed-loop recycling and bio-based materials provisions in PPWR report

The European Waste Management Association (FEAD) has expressed concerns about amendments adopted by the European Parliament's Environment Committee today which would prioritise closed-loop recycling and open the door to using bio-based plastics to meet recycled content targets.

Overall the Committee's position "rightly takes into account the entire life cycle of packaging from its production to its end-of-life," said FEAD. The umbrella group pointed to increased requirements regarding recyclability that would be applicable to all packaging in the EU, separate collection targets and mandatory minimum recycled content levels among the provisions as "clear signals that the role of the waste management and recycling industry is being recognized."...
