Talks between the government, employees' and business representatives have ended unsuccessfully. The Finnish transport workers AKT union today announced they are extending the strike until 1 April 6 am instead of 25 March 6 am.

The industrial action announced by AKT concerns Viking Line's cargo handling operations in the ports of Helsinki and Turku, Neste Corporation's warehouses in the tanker and oil products and other companies.

The companies affected by the strike are listed on the AKT website (https://www.akt.fi/painavasyy-11-24.3/keita-lakko-koskee-milloin-lakko-alkaa-ja-paattyy/ahtausala/).

Experts expect that the impact on the pulp and paper industry will be severe. A two-week strike was difficult but manageable, but a longer strike would force many mills to temporarily cease operation, experts told EUWID.
