France: recycled containerboard producers implement part of their planned increase

Against the background of medium demand and minor increases in RCP prices, suppliers of recycled containerboard to the French market had to scale down their price plans.

A lengthy tug-of-war over manufacturers' plans to charge more for recycled corrugated case material in France ultimately ended with only a smaller portion of the original target being implemented during September. At the start of the month, market players had told EUWID that manufacturers had scaled back their target, however, once a few producers had accepted even smaller mark-ups, others were not far behind.

Higher prices have applied from different dates in September, sometimes even from the first day of the month. In addition, a large number of different outcomes were reported. Manufacturers also remarked that they planned to tack on another increase in October in addition to the price hike secured in September. At any rate, producers stated that they wanted to continue to work towards their original price goal.

The French recycled containerboard business is average at best, according to manufacturers. Demand was not really bad, but it was quiet, producers say.
