GC board suppliers yield to price pressure in Poland

Prices on the Polish market for GC board have been pointing down since the middle of July.

Several virgin fibre board manufacturers submitted to a mounting price pressure in Poland in July and have made downward adjustments to GC board prices. EUWID respondents on both side of the market confirmed that prices were marked down by 2% as of the middle of July. The new prices will apply at least for the third quarter, reports indicated.

The drop in prices is said to be a logical consequence of good supply in the European virgin fibre board market as well as weaker demand in several countries. Delivery periods for GC board are said to be short at a maximum of two weeks. Furthermore, the situation reflected developments in the German market where prices are also crumbling, the supplier added.

Some folding cartons manufacturers claimed that the price cuts did not apply all across the market but that price reduction have been granted only to large buyers. Not all suppliers offered discounts, they said.
