German board market suffers from seasonal effects and inventory destocking

|

The summer holiday season has left its mark on the German cartonboard market. Manufacturers report weak demand for all board grades due to seasonal effects. Furthermore, the lagging demand in August is attributed to inventory destocking taking place across the entire supply chain. Some recycled board manufacturers say efforts are being made to adapt supply to changing demand by temporarily taking capacity off the market. There was talk of smaller downward price corrections for recycled board in August in scattered instances, however, GD board prices on the German market remain virtually unchanged.
