Germany: order intake for cartonboard and containerboard still sluggish

Reluctant customer spending sticking around in the run-up to Christmas

Even though order intake remains very lacklustre, recycled corrugated case material manufacturers appear to have managed to keep prices largely unchanged in Germany in November, too. Producers see no leeway for additional price cuts amidst a series of cost hikes, above all for ordinary recovered paper grades and energy.

Sources painted a similar picture of the cartonboard market. Better weeks were followed by plunging demand. All things considered, demand remains too soft, and the outlook for the next few months is not very rosy. The world remains fraught with uncertainty and mired in crises, so consumers would likely continue to engage in cautious buying for the time being, converters predicted....
