Italian fine paper prices under pressure in June

Fine paper manufacturers and suppliers doing business in Italy are experiencing growing pressure on prices amid weak demand and mounting competition.

Weak demand and stronger competition are putting downward pressure on woodfree uncoated paper prices in Italy. Minor price cuts were reported for offset reels and offset sheets in June.

Italy's copy paper market has seen even stronger pressure on prices in June as several paper producers from Europe and overseas engaged in a price war. According to EUWID sources, this has caused prices for B and C copy paper grades moving closer together, especially where white boxes were involved.

Manufacturers' comments about order books and order intake in June provided little cause for optimism and made it hard to believe that the prevailing pressure on prices would abate any time soon.
