Prices for coated mechanical reels are still suffering from excess market supply. April has seen another minor reduction to LWC prices on the UK market.
LWC prices continue on a downward trend in the UK. Following a minor price reduction in January 2014, LWC prices have softened again at the start of the second quarter amid ample supply. According to EUWID-respondents, manufacturers have lowered their prices in April by a few pounds sterling, bowing to pressure from customers. However, only prices in three-month contracts were affected.
Sales figures for the first few months of the year suggest that the UK market for magazine paper as a whole is still shrinking, albeit not as much as it did last year. LWC producers hope that the closure of a paper machine at Stora Enso Veitsiluoto, announced for the end of April, and the shutdown at the company’s Corbehem mill in France will reduce excess market supply and help stabilise prices<spanMyriad Pro SemiCond"" lang="EN-GB">.
