The cartonboard market in Germany has heated up: producers want to hike prices for GD board as well as for greyboard but the outcome of negotiations is still unclear.
Assessment of the development in the greyboard and GD board segments varied throughout April and the picture was still not clear at the end of the month.
Some companies say they were successful in implementing the price hike for greyboard and achieved around part of what was announced. But an equal number of market participants also say they have not yet paid more in April.
Developments in the GD segment vary. Some manufacturers aimed to raise prices in April and others as of 1 May. However, whether and to what extent negotiations will be successful, was not clear by the end of April.
Several converters assess availability of GD board as very good and say they are still able to buy at existing prices. Only some manufacturers reported small hikes. According to most respondents, however, negotiations are still ongoing.
