Spanish paper industry downed tools on 23 February

Extensive strikes paralysed Spain’s pulp and paper industry on Wednesday, 23 February. Trade unions FIA-UGT and CCOO had called for nation-wide strikes at pulp, paper and board manufacturing sites, after collective bargaining talks with the employer association ASPAPEL had failed once again the night before the strike. According to the trade unions, almost 100% of the union members participated in the strikes and downed tools for 24 hours. EUWID respondents confirmed that production was halted at major paper and board production facilities all over Spain for an entire production day. FIA-UGT and CCOO threaten to go on strike again on 3 March if the negotiations, which will continue until then, fail again.
